The expanse of the prairies, the abundance of the land, and the colorful patchwork of crops, cultures, and cuisines: Only a bighearted open-house buffet could do justice to the plenitude of foods from the Midwest.

This holiday menu makes generous use of regional ingredients — from Great Lakes wild rice and Maytag blue cheese to cherries and cranberries — in both traditional and updated dishes. As for the centerpiece of the buffet, what else could it be but a gorgeous baked glazed ham and a traditional roast turkey.
